About Pip

Hi! I'm the mom behind Pip East Bay. I have three kiddos, and somewhere between snack negotiations, folding endless laundry, and dealing with tantrums I ran out of mental bandwidth to constantly figure out how to occupy my kids and feed them on weekends.

So I built the thing I wished existed: a simple, straightforward way to find activities and family-friendly spots around the East Bay, filtered the way parents actually think (e.g. "Is it open right now?" "What's the closest kid-friendly restaurant near our activity?" "Are there high chairs?"). Obviously there are fantastic, existing resources out there, but who has time to actually filter for the ones that are kid-friendly when your toddler is going stir-crazy at home and is hangry? If this site saves you a few minutes on a weekend, it's done its job.

Pip East Bay is my love letter to the East Bay. The East Bay offers so much for families: tons of great activities for kids, a wonderful, diverse community, incredibly delicious food, beautiful outdoors, and the BEST weather in the Bay. I want to showcase what it offers to families living here and families that want to move here.

This site is very much a work in progress and a side project, so we appreciate your patience as we build and work out the kinks. There are places we haven't discovered and restaurants we'd love to add — we're just working on it.

Privacy & Terms

What we don't do

• We don't ask you to make an account or hand over your name, email, or location.
• We don't build a profile on you or follow you around the web.
• We don't sell, rent, or trade personal information — there's nothing to sell.

Cookies we use

When you first visit, we ask whether you're okay with analytics cookies — you can Accept or Decline, and we only turn analytics on if you accept. You can change your mind anytime by clearing cookies in your browser. Here's the full picture:

• What we use: a first-party analytics cookie (and similar local storage) from PostHog, plus any strictly necessary cookies the site needs to work.
• Why: to compile aggregate data about site traffic and interaction — which pages are popular, roughly how people move through the site — so we can offer better experiences and tools.
• What it sees: pages you view, clicks and interactions, approximate (city-level) location from your IP address, and your device and browser type — all rolled up into aggregate counts, never used to identify you.
• How long we keep it: analytics data is retained for about 12 months, then cleared. We don't keep a profile on you between visits.
• Your choices: hit Decline on the banner, block or delete cookies in your browser, or switch on "Do Not Track" — we honor it. Pip East Bay works fine either way.

Selling & sharing your information

We will never sell your information, and we'll never sell your data to advertisers. If Pip East Bay ever runs ads down the road, that won't change — we still won't sell or hand over your personal information. The only thing we ever share is anonymous, aggregate statistics (like "300 people looked at playgrounds this month"), and that can't identify you.

Other services we lean on

To show maps, directions, and ratings, Pip East Bay uses services like Google Maps and OpenStreetMap, and we link out to venue websites and their Google listings. Those companies have their own privacy policies and set their own cookies, and we don't control them — please review their policies when you use them.

Children's privacy (COPPA)

Pip East Bay is made for parents and caregivers. It's an adult-facing guide — it isn't directed at children, and it isn't a place for kids to sign up or share anything. In keeping with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA), we don't knowingly collect personal information from anyone, and specifically not from children under 13. If you believe a child has somehow sent us personal information, email us and we'll delete it right away.

How we handle information (the fair-information basics)

• Notice: this page explains what we do — and mostly, what we don't.
• Choice: you can block cookies or opt out of analytics anytime.
• Access & correction: we don't hold personal data about you, but if you ever have a concern, just email us.
• Security: we take reasonable measures to keep the site safe. No website is ever 100% secure — but since we don't store personal information, there's very little about you to expose.
• Accountability: in the unlikely event of a breach that affects visitors, we'll post a notice on this page promptly — within 7 business days.

We can't guarantee any listing is complete or current, and we aren't responsible for your experience at a place you found here — use Pip East Bay at your own discretion.

The words, design, and illustrations on Pip East Bay are ours; facts about venues belong to the venues. Please don't scrape, copy, or misuse the site. Links to other sites are offered for convenience and aren't endorsements.

Changes to this page

If our practices change, we'll update this page and the "last updated" date above, and we'll flag anything significant. It's worth a peek now and then.
